Getting Involved With Schools' Social Awareness Programs to Increase Sales

Every school has programs in place to increase social and global awareness and teach their students to be good citizens and contribute to society. As a small business owner, you can help foster and support this while increasing sales at the same time. Here are some tips and ideas that you can use to approach any school teacher or headmaster.

Restaurants:

* Many schools have special lunch days. Pizza day, hot dog day, etc. where children can purchase a special lunch as a treat. You can approach the school and offer to give a portion of the proceeds to a charity of their choice. This can be a monthly event.
* Feeding the hungry. For every bowl of soup a child buys, you will donate a tin of soup to the local food bank.
* Disaster relief. Put together coupon books with a real value attached to it. These coupon books will have things like; Buy one entree and get the second free, free appetiser with a meal purchase, free beverage with a meal purchase. One coupon per week for the entire year. Total up the value of the entire savings for the coupon book and put that value on it. Offer it to the schools to sell to family and friends for £10 per book which they can donate 100% of the proceeds to a disaster relief fund. This will generate a great deal of business for your restaurant as the purchasers use the coupons.

Florists/Gift Shops:

* Bringing a smile to shut-ins. Children can purchase small bouquets or a single rose which they can take to or you will deliver to a shut-in in their name.
* Adopt a grandparent day. On Mother's Day or Father's Day the children can purchase a gift for a senior citizen who does not have family nearby.

Sporting Goods Stores:

* Right To Play: ask the school to let parents know that when they buy sporting equipment at your place of business you will donate 20% of the purchase will be donated to the Right To Play foundation in their child's name.
* Buying Equipment for Under Privileged Children. $5 from every sale will be donated to subsidise children who cannot afford to participate in organised sports.

No matter what business you are in, you can find ways of supporting a cause and building social awareness in the schools. Many schools do not have big budgets for these types of programs and rely on fund raising or business support. You will build your buying customer base by getting involved in philanthropic activities within your communities. Others who support the cause will go out of their way to do business with you as a result.
